The Train the Trainer: Training Techniques workshop is designed to take IATSE workers who are experts in their craft who are or will be training at their local and teaches them education and training techniques to improve their presentation and sharpen their skills as teachers.
The two-day training covers effective teaching and presentation techniques, adult learning theory, and classroom management skills for safety and craft skills trainers. This is a training with something for everyone that is accessible and applicable to all crafts and trainers—new and experienced—with ample time for practice. It is a rigorous, information-packed, and rewarding two days where participants can learn, work, and network with new and existing IATSE worker-trainers from around the US and Canada.
Who is it for?
This course is intended for trainers who will be using the OSHA 10-Hour General Industry with Focus on the Entertainment Industry, OSHA 30-Hour General Industry with Focus on the Entertainment Industry, OSHA 10-Hour Construction with Focus on the Entertainment Industry, OSHA 30-Hour Construction with Focus on the Entertainment Industry, or IATSE TTF Safety First! curriculum and those conducting safety or craft skills training for their local. Participants will need to have a specific safety or craft skills course that they teach or are familiar with to utilize during the teach-back portion of the workshop.
Local unions are invited to select up to three IATSE workers from their local to attend our two-day, customized Train the Trainer workshop. Select experienced local trainers or IATSE workers who you want to develop as new safety or craft skills trainers for your local. If you are a Training Director, Training Coordinator, and/or other officer responsible for coordinating training at your local but do not teach craft skills and/or safety courses at the local, you are welcome to attend this course, so you also know and understand the training methods being shared with trainers. INSTRUCTORS:
Esther Ramirios is a learning strategist who partners with organizations to cultivate a learning and professional development culture. Over the past 18 years, she has specialized in instructional program design with various labor-management programs throughout the country. She currently coaches subject matter experts on developing outcome-oriented learning programs. Ms. Ramirios holds master’s degrees in Organizational Management and in Education with a specialization in Adult Learning & Curriculum Development.
John Mathews, a comic at heart, has spent the past 10 years leveraging his improv training from Second City and Groundlings to deliver trainings that ensure learners have fun while learning. He has worked as a trainer in the corporate, government, and nonprofit sectors, with extensive experience working in healthcare and higher education. He currently serves as a Career Coach for UC Merced, where he leads career and personal development workshops. He is a certified coach through the Association for Talent Development and a seasoned instructional designer.
COST: The two-day workshop itself is free of charge for participants. The IATSE Training Trust Fund cannot, however, cover the costs for travel, lodging*, meals, or per diems associated with travel or participation in this workshop. *The TTF has a hotel subsidy available to qualifying locals.
