The course covers safe work techniques when working around electrical hazards and tools present in the entertainment environment. At the end of the course, students will be able to recognize electrical hazards and avoid them as well as develop safe use skills and practices of power and hand tools that are used on a regular basis.

  • The importance of electrical safety

  • Who is at risk of electrical accidents

  • General employer responsibilities and employee responsibilities

  • Electrical hazards and prevention/removal of hazards

  • Effects of electrical current

  • Electrical shock hazard and physical reactions to electrical shock

  • Fall hazard

  • Electrical burn hazard and arch flash hazard

• Introduction to Hand and Power Tools

  • Recognizing hand and power tool hazards

  • Ergonomics

  • Hand tool safety and selecting the right tools for the job

  • Principles for the use of electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic tools

  • Abrasive wheel, fuel-powered and powder actuated tools, nail gun, spray guns, and abrasive blasting tools

  • Tool replacement and storage
