Getting to Know Your Sewing Machine: Introduction to Sewing Machine
This course provides basic sewing machine knowledge for workers wishing to learn more about their home sewing machines. On the first day, participants learn the basic anatomy of their sewing machine, common troubleshooting, basic machine control, and begin learning basic fabric manipulation. On the second day, participants should expect to finish learning basic fabric manipulation and then apply the skills learned to a simple take home project that can be completed in one day.

Crystal S. Heckert has been sewing for over twenty years for live entertainment and most recently for filmed entertainment. She has a Master’s in costume technology and management. She has taught at the university level and enjoys teaching others new skills.
Ginger Holley has been a tailor/stitcher for television and film since she graduated from the International Academy of Design and Technology in 2013. Before her film and fashion education, she grew up doing sewing projects with her mother and grandmother from a young age and still enjoys many varied sewing-related disciplines in her time between jobs. Since moving to Atlanta, she has gained experience in fabrication of all kinds, from leatherwork and hand embroidery to puppetry. Her hobbies are goldwork, vintage/broken jewelry art, and podcasting.
